About
My name is Wajeeha, I am a graphic designer, of South Asian descent a mom who is a tired groggy captain of my pirate crew. Learning Urdu, reading and writing, was put at the back burner growing up as my parents were busy working and I was bullied for being from a different culture.
My perspective started to change when I had married a Pakistani man who was more comfortable speaking in Urdu rather than in English. My Urdu verbiage began to improve and He would give me more insight into our culture. Misconceptions where clarified and I began to shed the stigma.
Usually people who distance themselves from a culture they begin by not learning the language. As language is a gateway to a wealth of information and depriving ourselves of having that key, we limit ourselves from understanding so much that could be accessed. Now when I became a mother I wanted to share this with my children. As a children I had attempted to learn Urdu however all the books teaching Urdu were written in Urdu, why I still do not understand.
Now as a mother, on a quest to find information for my children to teach them Urdu I could not find such information in English and if it did exist it was presented a manner that did not make sense. It lacked excitement, engagement and wonder especially for children.
I have since them been working on learning material for everyone. My father had created an Urdu Alphabet book when I was a teenager. I have taken his simplified version and have researched in depth the Urdu Language to provide an easier way to learn.
